About this poster

After seeing Clay Wadman's work, and in particular its masterpiece, the El Capitan Free climbing map, I decided to give it a try and create a similar concept for the most beloved wall in Arco: Colodri.

This poster is the results of countless hours of work. The process started with taking multiple pictures of the wall from different angles during sunny and crispy cold winter days. After that I created a collage of photos that followed the wall all around its curves. This step was necessary in order to give credit to each line on the wall, even the ones that are not located in the most visible locations. Once the collage was ready I built a grid system and manually drawn with a pencil every detail of the wall and its features on a large canvas. This was probably the most important part, getting every detail right was important in order to fairly depict the features followed by each route: cracks, corners, slabs and so on.

Then came the fun part, using a combination of watercolors and ink to try reproducing the amazing colors of this mountain. Water has done an amazing work through the years on this wall, and the result is a mix of yellow, red and greys mix in a perfect blend. Unlike Clay Wadman's work, which mostly uses pencils and grey colors, I wanted to give it a more colorful touch by using watercolors.

The final and equally laborious part was collecting the information of all the climbs that reach Colodri's top and accurately draw them pitch by pitch on the artwork. The result are fifty independent lines for climbers of all skills and levels. Over the years I was able to climb most of the lines, which helped when adding details of every single pitch. For the climbs I have not yet climbed I leaned on the great work done by Diego Filippi in his guidebook edited by Versante Sud. In some cases I simply looked around various corners of the internet.

What you are left with is a poster that you can hang on the wall of your house or your gym. I hope it will bring back good memories of the time you spent in Arco, otherwise, in case you've never been here, get you excited about putting your hands on Colodri and its beautiful walls.
